Pompons, Pompoms, Pom-Poms?

I never thought the title of my new book would be so difficult and controversial. There are so many variations of the word pom poms, pompoms, pompons, pom-pons, pom-poms. It originates from the French word pompons and is referenced in dictionaries as pom-poms too. Most of the Cheer sites have the original word pompons or pom pons (which is just weird). Seems it is more of an opinion. Please what's yours?

Larry Hagman -- JR

Yes, we knew him as JR. Wanted to include another picture to our tribute to this great actor. It was my privilege to have acted in scenes with him. Although I am new at this, he treated me and others with the utmost respect and was so friendly. I'll never forget this scene -- Show #1 of Season #1 at the Cattle Barron Ballroom. I had on my black hat and wore it proudly ---- and was so taken with JR.

J.R. (Larry Hagman)

Very first show of Season 1 -- Cattle Barron's Ballroom scene
SOUTHFORK RANCH

JR (Larry Hagman) -- I can't help it . . . I am so moved by this man's legacy. I grew up watching DALLAS when my daughter was just a little girl. I watched an incredibly sexy Major interact with a gorgeous Bewitched! I watched someone shoot JR. Then I was fortunate enough to be able to stand on set with this man! I have ALWAYS called him JR (my Daddy's name too). The very first episode of DALLAS, I was in the scene when JR walks into the ballroom and sees Sue Ellen as she gives her speech to run for Governor. During the break, Mr. Hagman stands next to my bar table (the set), and he shows me his huge gold watch and says "Do you think it is too much?" I looked into his eyes, and I said "No, I think it is just perfect." He said "Me too." I then said "I think you are more handsome in person than on TV." He said "Well, thank you Darlin!" I'll never forget those words. It was just too perfect. Now that's JR -- the character I knew and loved. Excited me to no end, and I am grateful to know this wonderful actor even if only for a few episodes. RIP Larry Hagman -- you'll always be my JR.

New Book

So excited -- now I can share with you since I talked with the publisher today, and my book is officially in production. WooHoo! Looks like the release date won't be until January 2013, so we've still got a couple more months to go with editing and getting everything in place. But now I can release the title --- Stilettos to Pom Poms -- and I can't wait to share the journey with you.

Finished my second book!!!

It's DONE! I completed my second book over the weekend, and Karen edited it for me. I'll be talking with the publisher this week to begin the process of getting it into print!!!! I can't wait to release the title to you. I AM SO EXCITED!!! This is Fun for sure.

Dancing keeps me young

Dance until your boots drop. That's exactly what we did last weekend at The Lakewood Theater in Dallas, Texas. The show was called BLACK CATS, and kitty cats we were. The sexy ladies of The Hot Flashes dance 3-4 times a year, and we continue to draw a large audience. I love it because it keeps me young. The choreography is both challenging and sexy -- can't ask for a better exercise.

I Can Remember Choreography!

When I auditioned for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, it was questionable for me if I would be able to pick up choreography, because it happened so fast. Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, I CAN Remember Choreography!!!! I am practicing for my second dance debut with my new dance team, The Hot Flashes, on October 20th, and I CAN REMEMBER CHOREOGRAPHY! I was so excited today. It just clicks. If you work hard for something and you believe, the rest will surely fall into place with practice. The thing I love most is I can still be myself --- Sexy and Grovin with the Grindin Moves. Gotta love those girls -- I do. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer if you'd like to come to the show.

DALLAS - tonight on TNT - I'll be there

Taken night before DALLAS season finale at Southfork Ranch

You have to join me in watching the final show of DALLAS tonight. I'll actually be on the show again. Pay extra attention when JR goes to the hospital to see "someone." It will air 8:00 p.m. on TNT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GabWJZ1oYQY&feature=plcp (update - here is one of the clips)

Had a blast last night when I got to visit Southfork Ranch. I was there with our ladies dance team for a photo shoot. It was surreal walking around the ranch knowing I have been a part of this fantastic show.

Nike Boot Camp Training

The class killed it today with Nike Boot Camp Training -- kicked my butt in a good way. I encourage you to push yourself just a little bit each time you exercise. This will help you reach the next level. I am not talking about the "no pain no gain" philosophy. I am speaking of just good ole exercise and motivation to arrive at the next level. Listen to your body first, and your endorphins will take over. Exercise will help keep you young. Exercise Keeps You Young

Kick Butt and then Yoga!

Yesterday, I was really mean to myself and kicked my butt in a Nike Bootcamp Training Class!!! Was Awesome and Hurt so GOOD! Today, I tuned it down with Yoga. I am sore, and it did help. There are so many types of Yoga for you to try. Challenge yourself today if you are not already a Yoga Buff to try something different -- some are more challenging than others.
  • Hatha - physical poses as a way toward self-realization.
  • Vinyasa -- Fluid movements and frequent switching between poses, thus raising the heart rate.
  • Ashtanga -- Fast-paced cardio with strength training (vigorous and awesome).
  • Power Vinyasa -- More physical and taxing than vinyasa and does not have a set sequence of poses.
  • Iyengar -- Perfect alignment, using props such as belts, belts and blankets.
  • Bikram -- "Hot Yoga" -- 26-pose sequence in temps that can reach 105 degrees and up to 40% humidity.
  • Mamaste -- Yoga for women who are pregnant or who have recently had a baby.

Hope is beautiful

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” ~George Eliot~

While staying focused, I am still excited and hopeful to be able to share the concept of never giving up on your dreams -- no matter what they might be. So excited to even be in this position -- one that I would have never dreamed of in a million years. I am working with a screen writer -- we'll see where it goes. Hope is Beautiful.

This is what it's all about

I was so moved this morning when I checked my e-mails, and I received a communication from Ottawa, Canada. It reads "I think your story is just amazing and of course I took notice when I heard that a 55 year old grandmother was trying out for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I too am 55 and when I was in my 20s I wanted to be a flight attendant. When I saw your story, I sent in my application to the airline - can you believe it. But I have to say you are really gorgeous."

This is what it's all about . . . . inspiring others to live out their dreams!!!! WooHoo - doesn't get any better than this. I would love to hear more from you on your dreams that you will make come true.

Cheering for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders squad?

What if -- The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders had given me an opportunity to cheer at just one game? It would have made NFL history, Jerry's World history, world history, and quite frankly set a wonderful example for people in general to never give up on your dreams. I think about this topic often, because the interest is still there even after months when I first started training in January. I am still getting contacted weekly for reporter interviews; had one last week and another one coming up in two weeks. This demonstrates to me that people want to believe in something good. We want to be able to dream and to imagine that it could really happen. We want to believe in ourselves and in others -- that others will give us a chance without judging first. Never give up on your dreams -- they become our reality.

Interview with Brazil

Very exciting - I just finished a telephone interview with a reporter from Brazil who was interested in my training regimen including nutrition and exercise. He was also very interested in my journey to audition for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Apparently, the news went all over Brazil. His name is Bruno Thadeu Prado Rodrigues, and he was awesome to visit with. He is here covering the story of Brazil's most famous soccer player, Neymar, who will be performing Sat/Sun, June 2-3, at The Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Brazilian soccer team is a 5-Cup Champion Team!!! They do this all over the world. The stadium has standing room only -- 110,000 people!!! They are playing Mexico. He wanted me to come dance on the field with the player when he made his first score, but I am not sure that would prove to be appropriate for a Brazilian soccer game. :) I have watched videos of Neymar dance, and not only is he very cute - he dances very well. We wish our Brazilian friends the best of luck this weekend.

Military Dance Show for Memorial Day

The Hot Flashes Dance Team

The Hot Flashes Dance Team Members

Got My Rifle (wooden of course)
As promised, a follow up for Ladies of The Hot Flashes Dance Team. We had a fabulous time at the Move to the Groove Ball on May 26th at the Lakewood Theater, Dallas, TX. We marched in our camo attire, saluted to Lee Greenwood's America, booty popped, bumped/grind to a beat that would make anyone want to get up and dance. If you've ever dreamed of doing something in your life, what's stopping you? Take a chance. What will it hurt?

Dancing with Camo and Guns

Mean Green Dancing Machine
I can't wait until tomorrow night. I'll have my first show with my new dance team Saturday night at the Lakewood Theater in Dallas, TX. I have been practicing the marching, salutes, booty pops (yes we have a lot of them), hip/hop, jive, and whatever else I decide to throw in. This is a sneak peak at the outfit. I'll post pictures after the show.

Cutest little cheerleader

Cutest Little Cheerleader

Someone else did this and put on internet.
Just had to share. Karen from my office got me this precious keepsake of my DCC Journey; the cutest little cheerleader ever. The second picture was created by someone else (unknown) -- found it floating on the internet and thought it was clever. THANK you Karen and THANKS to everyone for all of your supporting comments and for sharing your own dreams and goals. I encourage you to shoot for the stars always. One of the guys in my building today approached me saying he saw my DCC story and had to share that he too stepped outside his box and is now singing with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra! He too gave up a dream when he was younger and pursued again in his 50's -- kudos to him. Today has been surreal -- radio interview 6:15 a.m. with 106.1 in Wisconsin (Packer country), Channel 11 CBS at 8:30 a.m. for interview (should air tonight), and then a British journalist with Splash with my story and photo shoot. Harley is now "Hollywood Harley" because he was in a lot of the photos. Tomorrow morning, radio interview with Sirus Playboy Channel at 9:20 CST -- should be fun!

Dallas Morning News - Audition Interview

http://www.dallasnews.com/video/?freewheel=90850&sitesection=dallasnews&VID=23620436
Kudos to the reporter for the Dallas Morning News, Ronald Baselice, for capturing my feelings during the audition for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on May 5th. This guy did an awesome job with both the interview and also capturing the best moments of my freestyle dance.

Closing thoughts . . . DCC Journey

Just a couple more moments to share with you . . . I am attaching pictures of the incredible girls with one incredible lady - Kitty Carter (top row - 2nd from left). If you would like to see more memories of the girls and stadium, just let me know. I have an album that I have posted on Facebook. You can also subscribe to my page Sharon FB page.

CMT Producer - Mitch Glazer

Allow me to introduce to you one of the NICEST (handsome too) television producers that I have ever met!!! Mitch Glazer treated me like a queen when he did the background story on me, and his crew members are equally awesome. They were so careful when they were literally all over my house not to hurt anything, and he also treated me so respectfully when he interviewed me and my daughter. Hollywood Harley even played a role in the segment while he methodically chewed on his pink bone on the bed. All producers should pay close attention to how Mitch interviews his guests to get the most out of the story they are seeking. THANK YOU MITCH!!!! I so enjoyed meeting you.

Journey to Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Auditions

Only a few more things to share with you about the Journey to Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Auditions, May 5, 2012. Even though I wasn't one of the lucky ones to be selected to move on to round two (which is happening RIGHT NOW, May 6th), it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life!!! I have no regrets whatsoever and would do it all over again. I learned so many things --- I can do the Booty Pop thanks to BJ's instruction! I was able to teach some of my little favs about the importance of nutrition, and Crystal Anderson's abs looked awesome and I am so proud of her. She followed my nutrition plan and landed a spot on today's roster for Semi-Finals. There were about 350-375 gorgeous and talented girls, and only 135 or so were selected to return today. From this number, I am hearing approx 75 will be selected to go to the Interview Round. I trained hard, stretched until I thought my ligaments would pop, ate healthy non-processed foods (except for my weekend two scoops of ice cream), learned new choreography each week, met some AWESOME GIRLS, and most importantly - I met my goal to audition for the DCC. I feel I rocked my freestyle thanks to the incredible Audrea Cowan's training even though I forgot some of it towards the end --- then I just let loose and Mama got down. I could hear Kitty Carter's voice saying Mama -- get it - I love what you do. Hearing her helped me totally let loose - still just love that woman! For those of you thinking "I wish I would have tried what I have always dreamed of doing" and you haven't pursued that dream yet -- DO IT NOW - no regrets here. Never allow anyone else to set your limitations for you. Still loving life in my world -- WooHoo

Road to DCC - Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders audition

The countdown begins! In less than 24 hours, me along with hundreds of other DCC hopefuls will either be performing freestyle or anxiously awaiting their turn to do so. I am so honored and blessed to have this opportunity, and I can't wait to be there. I am tanned (not like Fitness of course) with a Golden Bronze spray, and I'll have the French polish applied this afternoon. I have my baked chicken going on in the oven along with two sweet potatoes. I'll have to go by the grocery store in a little while to pick up the magical veggie, asparagus (does wonders for sucking it all in naturally).

We attended more mock auditions last night at Kitty Carter's Dance Factory (we love Kitty), and I had a blast. I actually remembered the choreography! I was delighted with that. We all listened as the judges provided their feedback, and then you take in what is appropriate for you and apply that -- leaving the rest up for consideration. Having been judged by numerous judges over the last 6.5 years, I have learned to do just that. My private coach has been a darling during this whole process -- Audrea Cowan. She has provided her expertise and given me the tools with which to work with and be successful. I want to make her proud.

More media -- CMT last night and Inside Edition requests today. I don't know where this road to DCC will go, but I am having a blast driving along the path. Would be a dream come true to be on that incredible field; would be a DREAM to at least make it through the first round :) .I hope my quest provides some inspiration to jump out and take chances with things you may have considered doing in the past. Remember -- never allow anyone else to set your limitations for you -- go for it! WooHoo

CMT background story

So how fun is this? CMT http://www.cmt.com/shows/dyn/dallas_cowboys_cheerleaders_making_the_team/series_characters.jhtml just finished up doing the background story on me as a DCC hopeful for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Making the Team show. The producer and crew were all awesome people, and they made me feel totally comfortable. I am so impressed with their professionalism and looking forward to the final product. My daughter even got to provide her input into some of the story which was very special for me. We finished up with stretching and freestyle dancing at Kitty Carter's http://www.facebook.com/kittycartersdancefactory. Tonight we have mock auditions again, and I can't wait to see who the judges might be. Then it's off for tanning and nails tomorrow.

Wish me Luck!!!!!!

I am receiving so much support from friends, business associates, and acquaintances that it just melts my heart. I am so ready for this Saturday, May 5th, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders auditions. I am receiving cards, calls, e-mails, flowers, and very wonderful wine for the after celebration. My husband surprised me today with these! WooHoo!!!! Unbelievable. I also received a surprise visit from former Dallas Cowboys, Jesse Penn, who came by my office today to wish me luck saying he has been hearing about me from his former employer.

Me and Tracy Kornet!!!

WooHoo -- Tracy sent me a teaser picture for tomorrow night's broadcast of our fun time in dance class. She wanted to join all of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders hopefuls. She is one incredible lady and one of the best anchors in the business. The picture depicts our stretching moves prior to Miss Audrea getting hold of us and using us as rubber bands basically. Tracy said she couldn't walk for a week after class was over. Then of all things, she broke her foot (after class was long gone -- I didn't do it!). I would love for you to share in my fun. The broadcast will be Wednesday, May 2nd, Channel 11, KTVT, 10:00 p.m. news. KTVT

Think and do it Nasty?

Cheer Practice was both a revelation and awesome at the same time this morning. I asked for feedback, and I am grateful to learn I need to think and then do it nasty/dirty. Before you get all hot and bothered, that is in mind only. The nasty part is to simply get myself in the right mindset, get low, get wider, and then do it like I feel it. I have been too nice and conservative with my dancing. I know how to do this (I already to it), and now I need to bring it when I am dancing. We also decided my Solo that I originally planned to do (my Fitness Routine) simply will not work. We are redoing that too. We worked on that this morning, and it will be much better than my Burlesque chair routine. Audrea is the Queen of Sexy, and I do trust her instincts; now I have to work really hard to get it down. Unfortunately, I must have been so consumed with my hour of new stuff, that I literally sucked in open dance!!!! I just hate it when that happens. I was disappointed in myself; I can do much better than that! This super nice gorgeous lady in dance class was so encouraging to me. She told me to forget about all that stuff and simply be myself and work it from the waist up and let the music take over. She was so encouraging and I appreciated her input. Tomorrow is a new day, and I will practice hard this week. Had my hair done this morning (blonde) so it is all set for the interviews and the auditions coming this weekend!!!! Can't wait - so excited.

Cheer Practice last night

Class was terrific as usual at Kitty Carter's Dance Factory last night. We had some awesome young DCC hopefuls in attendance, and Kitty looked gorgeous (she is always full of life). We stretched like rubber bands, killed a spider on the floor, and then we learned new choreography. Kitty pointed out to not wear the "Tightie Whities" when you can see them. Too funny, I asked one of the young more experienced dancers what she recommends for Split training, and she responded "Oh don't worry, just slide down and pop right into the splits, and the adrenalin will take you all the way down." I giggled and thought if I do that, you should call 911 immediately, because this Mama won't be getting back up. Most of us had removed our heavy makeup, loving referred to as stripper eyes, from the mock auditions, and a few brought in their outfits. I just received my new audition outfit from Terra's website. Her outfits are terrific for not only auditions but fitness attire too. I am attaching a sneak preview of my new outfit -- I so love Hot Pink! Kitty talked about the media and how prevalent they will be around audition time. Some of us will be featured on CMT for background stories -- should be fun. I am fully prepared to give my all to the audition process, and it never hurts to be very optimistic about the possibilities. My approach is and always will be "You have already won the minute you hit the stage!"

Judges comments - thank goodness!

There is nothing in the world like being judged. Honestly, I mean that in a very good way. We had our mock auditions on Thursday night at Kitty Carter's Dance Factory, and I am SO grateful for the judges honesty and straight forward comments. The judges consisted of elite ex-Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and one incredibly handsome guy. Also, Kitty Carter ran the process, and we love her!!!! The first thing I learned through the process is my outfit (shown in the pic) will not work for the day of auditions. They all agreed. I had no idea about what to choose, so this saved me from possibly not being considered on May 5th because of my outfit. The comments on the outfit ranged from "too matronly, dated, and too much boob." The belt also received the same sort of comments. So I immediately got busy and ordered an incredible outfit from the designer that has taken care of me throughout my fitness career -- Terra Watson of DallasWear Terra's website. She is one of the best in Dallas and knows exactly what is required in order to be successful. Now I will shine on the day of auditions and hopefully the next day too.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Mock Auditions tonight

I went and picked up my audition outfit, and it rocks! I have the absolute best alterations lady in Dallas. Then I went and had my makeup and hair done -- this time with lashes all the way across in lieu of accent on the ends. We are practicing for the big day - May 5th. Excitement is building and so is the tension in that right hamstring. Checkin is at 7:30 and judging begins at 7:50-8:00 p.m. Brings back some very familiar feelings and memories . . . the fitness ladies know what I'm talking about. Oh almost forgot, had my chicken, asparagus, and small bites of sweet potatoes today too. You know - just to trim it up. Cannot be too lean!!!! Gotta have some giggle. Shake those pom poms.

Dance class today with Tracy

Had an incredible time today in dance class. I was so excited and honored that Tracy Kornet of Channel 11 took the time to join me and she actually DANCED with me. I have officially accused her of sand-bagging, because she was very good!!! We interviewed before the class started, and that was also a lot of fun and catching up. Then all the incredible girls showed up (mostly DCC hopefuls), and the fun started. Tracy held her own, and I had "some" good moments. Hard to move around with a mic strapped to you, but it was also a lot of fun. Audrea looked incredibly beautiful as always and was wonderful in front of the cameras. The girls all looked great too. We stretched, did pushups, and rose to situps until we choked. Then the choreography was funky and sexy -- just as sexy as our instructor. I can't wait to see us next week performing for the final cut of the interview and class time. I am having a blast with this incredible journey as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader hopeful!!!

Auditions getting close!

I had an absolute blast in Kitty Carter's class last night. I arrived early and participated in Miranda's "kick class" which was awesome. We practiced the kick routine that the Cheerleader's kick line does on the field. This is not easy! Lots of stretching and even more cardio power required. In Kitty's class, we had a special guest that demonstrated makeup for audition purposes and everyday life. He did an incredible job. We had a lot of new faces too -- more DCC hopefuls. I actually had a very good night last night - there until almost midnight. The choreography is coming a bit more easy for some reason, and I am delighted with that. An important note is next Thursday are the Mock Auditions -- WooHoo we will be judged, sliced, and diced most likely.

Saturday morning, I'll start very early with a makeup and hair appointment, because we'll be filming again in Audrea's class. I heard through the grapevine that Tracy will be taking the class with me. Sounds like a lot of fun to me -- have to forget about the cameras.

Turn Baby Turn

That's precisely what I was trying to do yesterday -- Turn Baby Turn! Audrea had us practice our turns and kicks. Guess What? I get a little dizzy -- nothing to do with the blond hair. We had our private session prior to open dance, and that was a lot of fun. I performed my Free Style numerous times to various music, and Audrea was pleased. Now I have an opening pose and a very cute sexy ending pose too. We STRETCHED!!! And then we stretched again -- upside down no less -- literally. My right hamstring is talking to me, but according to the professional dancers in class, this is not unusual. One girl commented that her entire time as a Rangerette, she hurt. I'll practice more this week -- my family is so pumped about this and I am so proud.

What's in the middle?

Ms Fitness Magazine - 2011 edition -- featuring incredible women over 40!!
Article written by the incredible Linda Mitchell
Saturday's dance class was awesome as always with Andrea Cowan, my incredible coach. I realized something about my learning ability. It seems with the fast choreography, I retain the beginning of the routine and the ending. Weird - what's in the middle? For some reason, I seem to go blank in the middle and I finish like a Champ. If anyone knows how to overcome this, please let me know. It will not be a stumbling block! I will get through this portion of the auditions. Good news is today I Rocked my Free Style Routine at 24 Hour Fitness!!

From Silettos to PomPoms

Had a wonderful time at cheer practice Thursday night. I got to meet a lot of new girls (some with the Mavs and some with Dallas Stars). Our instructor, the infamous Kitty Carter, was on a roll too. She was talking about her swag and had us all cracking up! My flexibility is getting much better, but I have to stretch every single day sometimes twice daily. My right splits are now just about 6 inches from the floor; I am so excited. I don’t have any issues with the physical agility portion which has always been a good thing. Thank heavens for all the training for fitness competitions. One of the highlights of my night (which ended after midnight) was Kitty asked me if I could help my favorite little DCC hopeful, and of course I jumped all over it. I will prepare a nutrition plan to help her become more toned; that’s all she needs to be close to perfect. I’ll also give her one of my books and make sure she studies the section on nutrition.  I call this “paying it forward.” It is wonderful to be able to give back.

Fit at Any Age - 93!

Amazing - as reported in Shape Magazine, 93-year-old Gladys Burrill finished the Honolulu Marathon for the 5th time!!! She is the oldest woman to complete a 26.2-miler. They call Gladys the "Gladyator" who says the key is exercise and a healthy nutrition plan (imagine that). Her motto is "When you cease to dream, you cease to live." I am living my dream - are you?

Shake your booty

And I did just that at cheer practice on Thursday night -- WooHoo! After a rough practice last Saturday, I decided to completely relax and concentrate so I could remember the choreography. It worked! Amazing what you can do with the right mindset. I began to basically shake my booty and dance, and magically the moves came. Crystal (wonderful 18 year old) was amazing as always. Several other younger girls totally rocked too. The Cheerleaders that came to dance were also incredible. I really felt like I was part of the team last night, and I was completely confident. It suddenly hit me -- what if? What if I work really hard and make it through the first round (freestyle - good chance), then second round (would be a miracle), and then comes the interview (would look forward to this one), and finally the solo round (this would be mine Baby). The possibilities are endless I'd say.

Never allow anyone else to set your limitations -- the sky is the limit!

Cheer practice

Today was a bit more of a struggle than most. I received news this morning there will be more viewers at my audition than I originally thought. I am totally committed to this journey of auditioning for America's Sweethearts -- The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I am also committed to taking each step as serious as the next and striving to be successful for an incredible end result -- living out the dream! I am not taking this lightly; this is hard work and totally worth it. I would only hope that the additional attention during auditions will be conducted respectful and allow me to put everything I have into the task. Yes, this is fun and I am totally excited; who wouldn't be. But this is also serious business, and I'll need to concentrate to be at my best. All that being said, practice this morning was a struggle. I will do better next time. I suppose I'll have to get used to the added attention. I did find out I'll need to get some new tennis shoes -- special ones for kicking. I found out a cool place to purchase the little Shortie Shorts. Need both of these to get my groove on. More practice this week. Stay tuned. I am determined my next report will be that I rocked it.

How old is the Dallas Cowboys Football Team?

I was thinking about this today as I was in my session with my trainer. How old is the Dallas Cowboys Football Team? 1960 Baby!!! Let me hear a Holy Cow - I am 55! That means I am older than the Dallas Cowboys Football Team. HA. Too Funny. My trainer asked me today in the middle of TRX training "How old are you in your mind?" I thought about it and said "That's a great question Carlos." He and I discussed this age thing, and I told him very honestly that on most days, I think and feel in my early 20's. There have been occasions when I was sprinting (yes sprinting) when I truly felt like my high school days in track. That being said, it depends upon the day and how I am feeling. Some days 18 and some mid-20's. Sometimes when my feet hit the floor first thing in the morning, I feel my age (for about 10 minutes), and then that wonderful cup of coffee with honey and my fav creamer, I feel 20 again!!!! WooHoo. Dare to ask yourself "How old do you feel?" By the way, it was an AWESOME training session today. My trainer has me doing Planks like I have never seen before. He is ripping me from the top of my core to the bottom of my core. We train for long and lean -- not for the muscular look. That's another story. Be consistent and keep training.

Holy Cow - I finally rocked it!

Hopefully graduate to big PomPoms
I couldn't wait to get home this afternoon to share that I finally rocked it out in dance class. My incredible cheer/dance coach, Audrea Cowan, taught us a routine to die for -- totally rocks. The cool thing is it brought me back to my fitness roots. She had us crouching down to the floor, rolling over on our rears, and lying on our backs. Doesn't sound like NFL Cheerleading stuff does it? All of this was done with such dramatic sexy moves that I was totally able to pull it off. I was able to remember most of the choreography, and the rest simply followed. I have been pumped ever since this morning -- WooHoo -- I'm on the way!
Have a Healthy Day

Which Top 40 is this?

Too Funny -- in order to perfect my moves, I have been practicing with no music. Then wouldn't you know it on the very day that I take an ipod, I can't figure out how to get the volume to go up! After trying for several minutes, I did get it turned up. The only music I have on the ipod is Ted Nugent's Snakeskin Cowboy, Steven Tyler's Back in the Saddle Again, and ZZ Top's Viva Las Vegas. You can truly rock it out with these guys. Ironically, most of the beautiful young ladies that I typically practice with don't even know who these guys are. So one of the instructors at my gym loaned me a Top 40 CD with today's music on it. This way, I can practice my 8-count moves to music that more likely will be used on the day of auditions. I still have to say, there is nothing like the music of the 70's. Those of you that are from that era know exactly what I am talking about. Carry on my wayward son . . .

Got my moves going on today

So excited! I went to my club today to practice my free style routine, and it is looking very nice. I am comfortable with all of my 8-counts, hip roles, bumps and grind. By auditions, I should be set to go. My physique is where it needs to be, and I can still have my scoop of ice cream on the weekend as my weekly treat. This is so much fun, and I encourage you all to consider something new. Try something outside your normal routine; something that you may never even consider again. Try it - you just might like it. http://www.fitnessanyage@gmail.com

What's a number?

Been a while since we've visited. What's a number to you? For me, it is basically a symbol for holding a "place" in something (simply a number). When we think of the year 2012, we think of newness, technology, and the world and where we are going. When we think of age, it is either assumed that it is the new beginning for something great, or it is basically time for us to choose our holding place to accept who we are at that moment and prepare to be done with it. Why do you think we must assume that when someone reaches a certain age that we must behave in a particular fashion. For example, when you cross 40 or 50 and go to your doctor for a checkup, the doctor prescribes certain tests simply because you are a certain age. When you become a Grandparent, it is assumed that you must look a certain way, dress a certain way, and certainly act a certain way ---- the way that others think you should act (not how you want to act). Personally, I choose to be who I am. By the way, had an incredible time at cheer practice this week. I actually did BETTER! Working on achieving the splits too. WooHoo!! Could be from all the support I am receiving. Had an incredible day of relaxation today too with my daughter and granddaughter with mani/pedi. My granddaughter just won 1st place in her cheer competition; doesn't get any better than this.

Practice Makes Perfect

Well . . . maybe not Perfect :)  Went to "Cheer Practice" yesterday, and my coach was pleased but I still have work to do. I did learn that my body has a mind of its own sometimes. When my coach is trying to teach me how to move, my arms sometimes go places that look like a little bird trying to learn how to fly. Funny! Those hips get to rolling, and I don't even realize it. So . . . this week I'll work on "taking pictures." That means 2-counts of basically posing. If you do these quickly, it really looks sexy. If I can come up with my pictures, then I'll have a place to go if I forget my freestyle routine or just need to rest in between. The adult choreography dance class afterwards was too fun. I did better!!! WooHoo! I like to say that I didn't perform as bad as I did before. Any improvement is improvement, and I'll take that all day long.http://www.dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/

Confidence

Consider the word Confidence and the meaning -- "the quality or state of being certain." When you know about something whether it is through some sort of higher scholastic learning, to know through experience, or sometimes it is just a gut feeling and we are certain. Another way to achieve confidence is preparation. This is a requirement in most goal achievement. I am in the midst of that process right now. I felt it strong today. I am confident (that state of being certain) that I am ready for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders audition process. I am working very hard for the first round (free style) and hopefully to be interviewed by the Judges. I am working on improvement for the second round -- choreography delivered in a quick manner -- this is tough. However, I will not give up! I will hang in there. This is too much fun, and I am anxious to see how it all turns out. I am off once again to my evening dance class. Will do it all over again Saturday morning. I HAVE AN AWESOME COACH!  http://www.dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/

Got my Jagger Moves On

Went to dance class yesterday, and I had a blast! The room was probably hotter than it should have been (85 degrees), but I really enjoyed it because I also got a good sweat. I still struggle with remembering the very quick choreography, but I don't any issues at all when I have a little time to learn a routine. The good news this may not knock me out of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders tryouts altogether. Our Thursday night instructor said "If you forget your choreography, then just free style. Don't just stand there!" She said one of the girls last season made it all the way through camp even though she totally forgot her choreography during tryouts. So there is hope for me. I won't give up! Hopefully, along the way, I'll remember some of the moves.

Time to Move like Jagger

WooHoo -- Let's go cheer! I have my new dance shoes on, and I am really not sure about this since I have never owned a pair of tiny dance shoes like these. They feel a little snug to me, but the dance store said they will form fit to my feet after one dance practice. I went to my club today and ran my dance routine, and I feel really good about the opening number. It is remembering the other routines that bother me -- QUICKLY! I go to Kitty Carter Dance Factory tonight to dance with all the lovely ladies. Then I meet with my private coach on Saturday at KJ Dance Studio to fine tune my routine. Super News!!!! Channel 11's Tracy Kornet starts filming the story mid-February. This will be fun. I am having the time of my life.

Cheer Practice Tonight

Never thought I'd be saying that at 55! How fun is that? I'm off to my Dance/Cheer practice class tonight at 8:30 p.m. The late time is a bit tough based on my schedule and getting up at 5:30 a.m., but this is so worth it. The first three classes were awesome. I didn't do very well the first two classes having issues keeping up with the young girls (a couple still in high school), but the 3rd class I did a lot better. The stretching is eventful to say the least -- thank heavens for the Yoga classes the past eight months that I have been taking at 24 Hour Fitness. I have to put a towel underneath my boney tailbone; had this since I was little. The first night when I met our incredible famous instructor, she said "Honey, you are brave!" Love her. I'll check in again. I have another class on Saturday too. I have been practicing those new dance combos all week.

Defining Moments

Many of you have heard me talk about defining moments or read about them in my book. We have to pay attention to the moment, grab onto it, and then make it happen. If we don't, it becomes just another fleeting idea. It is sort of like Opportunity Knocking -- you know the rest. It doesn't come knocking very often.

I had a wonderful defining moment a few months ago, and then I argued with myself about the notion to actually make it happen which is not like me. Then, I thought -- WHY NOT? That's my answer. I am in full preparation right now to try out for the fabulous Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. How fun is that? I have never been a cheerleader or had any dance training, so this is obviously challenging. That's also what I said when I started out in fitness. I am taking two dance classes a week from two different instructors, and in classes full of incredible young women and having the time of my life. I do believe, this will be a first in NFL history.

Stay tuned, and I'll blog as often as I can about the experience. And remember, you are never too old to make it happen. You have to believe and then work your butt off!
