Hot Flash Dance Team
Proof that Fitness is for Any Age, and Age is a State of Mind. The incredible sexy women of The Hot Flashes performed this past Saturday night at the Palladium in downtown Dallas, TX. Being a member of this wonderful team of talent is both inspirational AND fun!!! That's me on the first row -- a Demon. The theme was Sinners vs Saints made up of Angels and Demons.

Mud Run "before photo"
Gotta have this shot so you get the drift that a MUD RUN means just that -- lots of MUD and FUN!! Check out my previous post for the muddy pictures.

- Run Run Run -- some of the web research that I did indicates not to practice jogging or running -- but to sprint. This particular run had more than sprinting! There was a lot of RUNNING! Prepare.
- Mud Run means just that - Mud! Get ready to have mud in places you never thought possible, and don't expect all of the mud to be gone after one shower.
- No matter what type of shoes you invest in, there will be mud and small pebbles inside them as you are running.
- You CAN save your shoes ----- we washed an entire river of mud and pebbles out of my shoes with a water hose. My white tank ---- that's another story (it is brown now).
- Practice bear crawls; crawling on your belly while pulling with your arms and knees; climbing ropes ---- some HIGH; practice crawling out into a plank and then follow with your feet walkup to a pike and back again; weight train.
- I give kudos to all of the women than ran -- some in shape and some not. Those that were not in shape KEPT ON GOING for the Cause and I salute them!
- Be prepared to be sore and possibly hurt.
- Most of all --- HAVE A GOOD TIME. I loved it and will do it again.

Dirty Mudder Puckers - more volunteers
Peaking now Baby! We are on the way to having a very successful Mud Run. Trained Monday with crawls, squats, jumps, and sprints (of course some light weights too). Tuesday -- we killed it in Nike Training Class!!!! Holy Cow -- we teamed up and I am talking some good sweat swapping. Got another volunteer today for my team -- I am stoked!!! There is still time ladies.

Dirty Mudder Puckers
We've got a week until the Dirty Girls Mud Run event, and the excitement is building. Been hitting the gym hard with running drills, sprints, and of course Yoga. Always sore on Saturday morning (rest day), and then the dance team hits it hard again on Sunday afternoon. Not knowing what to expect makes this event even that much more exciting. Hopefully, I have over trained for the event and it will make me want to advance to the next level. I'd really like to hear from male/females that do mud run events.

Dirty Mudder Puckers - update
It's the Dirty Girls Mud Race coming up October 5th. My team is the Dirty Mudder Puckers, and we will rock-N-mud!! I invested in a good pair of trail runners, and they passed the fitness test today at the gym. I did box jumps, jump squats, and hard sprints ----- felt like I was running on clouds. I am sold! I am posting a picture of what they look like in case you need a recommendation.

Training for a Mud Run
Some of you will know what I am talking about when we discuss training for a Mud Run. This is my first run, so I am completely excited and wanting to learn how to train properly. I'll be running the Dirty Girls Mud Run 5K on October 5th. This run won't be too rough, but I want to approach it like it is the 24-Hour Death Race Mud Run. My team is called DIRTY MUDDER PUCKERS!! Ladies, there is still time to enter the race with me in the DFW area. Join under my team name, and we'd love to have you. I am providing some training tips that I have been adding to my daily routine 6 Tips to help you prepare for a Mud Run. This particular website is wonderful for workout training tips for fitness. Some of this weeks activities included:
- Monday -- Strength-Training with combo box jumps, squats, with light cardio between each set.
- Tuesday -- Nike Training with more box jumps, burpees with combo jump-back pushups, sit-ups of all kinds.
- Wednesday -- Yoga (and I thought this was going to be easy!!!! NOT -- had to leave after 35 min).
- Thursday -- Light strength-training, walking lunges, with strong cardio between each including SPRINTS!! I'll start adding more of these each day ----- I do not like to just RUN - Boring!
- Friday -- I will do more Yoga, but this guy is crazy! He bends like a pretzel and it is more of a power-Yoga --- so it will not be relaxing to say the least.

Working to the Oldies
Sitting at my desk moving in my seat listening to the oldies. Nothing like it. Right now on the radio is Bachman Turner Overdrive Taking Care of Business. How many times have I wished so bad that our YOGA instructor (I fondly call the YOGA Monster) would play some Led Zepplin Whole Lotta Love. Or even some Stairway to Heaven for the corpse pose. This morning on the way to work it was John Fred & his Playboys Judy in Disguise. I always thought the guy was saying "Judy in the Sky." There is nothing like reminiscing through old music. Yuck! I hate that word old, because it IS the music that makes us feel young!

Athletes Over 50
Do you know any? I certainly do, and there is total respect!!!! Some of you understand what I am saying when I mention it begins to hurt when you roll over in bed, put your feet on the floor, and even perform stretching in Yoga. In my mind I am still in my 20's, but my bones and body say otherwise. What's up with that?? Good news is that I can still perform, and I bet you can too. I was thinking about the song I heard this morning by Toby Keith -- "I ain't as good as I once was, but I am as good once as I ever was." Well Baby, I am good a few times!!! HA. I researched Athletes Over 50, and it made my day. Let's pay some respect to these awesome individuals today. If you are over 50, you'll particularly appreciate this article. Spin, Spin, Spin - not moving?
DO YOU RIDE THE SPIN BIKE? I am a newbie I have to admit. I have tried spinning numerous times over the last 10 years or so, but I have been so turned off for various reasons. Feels like you're going to have a heart attack when you first start out is my #1. My #2 is sometimes it hurts your crotch (need I say more). #3 - so many knobs and adjustments. Well, today my seat literally fell down -- twice right in a row. Talk about a shock and a very loud sound -- HA. You rack that baby back up and climb back on. I am up to 20-25 minutes on a very easy pace while seated. I still do not join the class, but I do SPIN every Tuesday before the class starts. I think I just need to build up so I can join in. DO YOU SPIN?? Sounds like a very good thing to do. I researched the benefits a bit and came across a wonderful website with the top ten benefits of spinning. Climb up on that spin bike - benefits!

How Hard is Too Hard?
Huuum - before you get too excited, my question is how hard is too hard when you exercise over 50? Every day when I am working out at the gym, I think about this. Of course, I naturally try the very same hard core exercises and moves that I have always done; sort of being cruel in my method of madness. Then today in a burpee session and breathing extra hard, I had to wonder how hard is too hard. Press Release -- can you prepare one?
I will be working today preparing my press releases to send out my promo books hopefully next week. Do you know how to prepare a good press release? It's not as easy as just sending a notice your book is out in publication. The first line has to get someone's attention. The first paragraph had better grab them, or your press release will go to File 13. It's actually an art to describe your book in one sentence. Think of it as your elevator speech. You know when you are on an elevator for about 20-30 seconds and you strike up small talk. Could you tell someone about your book or product in that 20-30 seconds that would grab their attention?
